Grand Funk Railroad - Inside Looking Out 1969
http://www.petitiononline.com/... Funk Railroad performing Inside Looking Out live from 1969. This clip was shot at "The Show" WITF-TV in Hershey,Pa. November 1969. Mark & Don were 20 & Mel 18 years old. This clip is timeless. I've had hundreds of messages from people of 4 generations worldwide that just are in awe of this powerful performance (Folks from 11 to 83 years of age). I've been told it's early "metal", to the original "grunge", to the real begining of "punk, to the first "garage band", to "pure tribal rock", to "straight-in-your-face rock", to "industrial-strength power rock". One things for sure, it is powerful, passionate, singular, & unique. Mark, Don, & Mel changed music forever with 10 minute Power Songs like this one. This is a POWER TRIO at its best. Grand Funk Railroad was truly a "Performance Vehicle". What you heard on the albums could be duplicated 100% on their live performances. Many would say it's impossible for a 3 piece band to do this live. See the impossible. Once you start watching it, it's hard not to finish it. This is the most popular GFRxR video on the net. Almost every day I give my kids the "back in my day we had real music" speech. The music played today on channels like Disney is wholly inorganic, over-produced, canned garbage. It offends my ears and my soul in the worst possible way. This is real, organic music, played from the gut and heart. I love it.Compare these twenty year olds to: in synch/timberlake/duff/jonas bros. etc., etc.

As a huge Grand Funk fan since I was 15, I thank you for this clip. I saw them twice: August 1970, and March 1971. The August 1970 show was a life changing event. I really like "Inside Looking Out" because I was a Farner wannabe in a rock band in high school. Actually played lots of gigs and had a little local following. We played this song for a good three years and it always rocked! My bass player modeled himself after Mel, playing with a felt pick and using lots of slides in his technique.

It's come to the point that I don't want to see the true rock bands from the late 60's and early 70's in the r&rhof. These bands define my teen years. The r&rhof is all about sell-outs, who let their music be used for commercials. Music from bands like Grand Funk would practically make my head explode. The last thing I want to hear is Grand Funk playing in the background of a viagra commercial. Screw the rrhof, it has nothing to do with rock.

Be totally ignored by The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame as though you never existed. Another first that is being rectified by "The Petition" in this video's description! 1. Break The Beatles ticket sales record @ Shea '71 & set a record that has stood for 37 years.2. Your first three albums went Gold in less than 90 days. Another first.3. First band to have a "Live Album" go multi-platinum (1970).4. Become the first band to sell ten consecutive Platinum albums. Another first.5. Have the number one song in America & number one album, already certified Gold before album has been oficially released due to pre-sales orders (American Band). Another first.

Yeah it's killer isn't it? You can get this exact version on the Grand Funk Live! album from around '71 I think it was. Not sure what the cd is, but it was a double-live album. I literally wore this record out when I was a kid! The best! :) |
