The spawning season of the fish is after dredge season -- designed that way so the loosened hardpack (like concrete) is fresh spawn material by the Fish & Game Departments (of many states). A win-win. Dredgers in Wa. were recently put into service to save a spawning bank that was eroding. I removed your comment as it contained profanity.

The only time I kept an accurate track was in this strike. I wanted to see what a person could do with gold, working the season (3 mos) in the Oregon belt (N. California included) of rivers (Klamath, Umpqua (where I am), Cow Creek drainage, Rogue, N Fork of the Feather). I worked 3 mos, tried to stay under 6 hours per day (most days was 4 hours). So the average is an ounce a day in the good rivers as long as you diligently learn how to pick spots and patiently work them out.

You can go to "Treasure Dive Sites" and click: Gold, Gem, & Treasure Locations . . ." to find sites. That is by far the most important thing to do first, find out what is available, what size it typically is, and you can get handle on whether you need a dredge at all, or simply a metal detector and shovel, or a sluice and shovel. Knowledge beforehand can save a lot of money later. Anything you click will lead to other books, they can also be ordered/checked out at the library. Good luck!

Not applicable now, prices have skyrocketed (with gold) . . . To dredge: the cheapest dredges to move bulk are 4" about $2200 for a Dahlke Micro B., a 3" Proline with air is $2685 (best of their dredges in my opinion - moves more material than many 4"s), a Keene 4" mini will run $2800. Sniping dredges (where you dredge metal detector hot spots): Keene 2" backpack: $1200, Proline 2": $1300, Dahlke Micro Midjet: $1250 -- A52 sluice, shovel, bucket, boots: $160 (Finding Gold V). Whites GMT: $799 |
