i think he loved her. but wasn't so in love like she was. he was also in love with another girl in the same time and he prefered this girl not famous. he should be honest with joan who learn only couples years after that during their relationship, he saw another person. ah les hommes !!!!

I completely agree with "paddy2youse"!!! But what is unfortunate is that while Dylan is incapable of loving anyone, Joan to this day still loves him. It is one of those romantic movies except in the end, they do not get together because one of them (this case Dylan) is reluctant to make that final commitment, and the other is left heart-broken for his/her entire life(Joan)! This song is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She may have loved him but that's it. It's pretty well accepted that he cynically used her celebrity to advance himself. In in her arrogance, she didn't see it. The proof is in his actions. Honestly, I don't think he's really capable of loving anyone -- not in a conventional sense. Forget all the wives,groupies, and tricks. He's a singular character and, again, his lifelong behavior confirms his inablility to remain faithful and attached. I love Bob but he's not ever going to belong to anyone.

Her tremolo tears at the heartstrings. Joan reinvigorated beautiful old ballads. This is really a well-written song, and that's not easy in the company of a giant. Sad and beautiful.
