I use this song as an example of musical irony in songwriting classes. It's got such a bright, bouncy rhythm and chord progression, and yet the lyrics are really morose. Total brilliance; this is one of my favorite Smiths tunes by far.

This song was about the wife of Morrisseys' former penpal, who fell into a coma.But emotional, yes. 'Emo' is a stupid, lazy term, and over-used.

The Smits é show de bola! Essa musica então... muito boa mesmo! Pena que eles nunca vieram ao Brasil, em especial na maior cidade da América do sul, São Paulo-SP. Acredito também que eles tem milhares de fãs em todo o país. O Morrisei só canta musicão, hein?! E a música deles que eu mais gosto é 'Ask'. Me faz voltar ao final da década de 80, quando escutei essa música pela primeira vez e comecei a gostar do grupo. Seria muito bom se um dia eles voltassem a tocar juntos...
