My dad had a 1963 Ford Falcon/4 door and that was the car I had to go get my driver license June 6, 1968 on my 16 birthday. My 2 sisters always wanted to know why I got to drive more than they did and my Dad mentioned he is a boy. Wow, that didn't make my sisters very happy. I was the middle boy and my sisters were 3 years older and 9 years younger. Actually my younger sister would be the same age as you are, she was born 9/20/61 or that could be wrong, she is 1 year older than you are.

Glen looked a lot more like boxer Jerry Quarry who was also the same age (approx).

I've been told Jim Webb was challenged to write this song about a worker, and look what he did. Only two verses and you know his sorrow, and if it snows it's only worse. Great American popular music that touches everyone. I saw James Taylor last night and they played and sang this pure and beautiful.

Actually, I thought he looked EXACTLY like the "young Kris Kringle (Santa)" from Santa Claus is Coming to Town claymation movie.

yes, I agree.....the year was fall of 1967 and I was in the 10th grade. Waiting to take driver's ed that fall. My brother in law was about to get drafted into the Army and was sent off to Vietnam. God Bless those kids

This is absolutely one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I hear it and I think of growing up in the 60s...what great memories

One of the single greatest lyrics of all time: "And I need you more than want you; And I want for all time". Damn that Jimmy Webb. Married with the amazing voice of Glenn Campbell this could only produce pure magic..which it did. |
