My god, they're telling her they've just seen activity on the runway they were about to enter and that they can see a sign saying Kilo, Kilo is nowhere near 23R! How can she be so patently ignorant of a dangerous situation and order a take off?

these days??? what are you comparing to, 1940? the percentage of female pilots is higher THESE DAYS. it may still be small, but i wouldn't go so far as to say that a female pilot is a very very very rare thing. you must be thinking of airline pilots, in which females make up about 5%.

ummmm not really rare at all. The ultimate mistake was made by atc for clearing US Air to take off without knowing where all of her traffic was. Especially when United said that a plane just flew over their head

most of you who made comments below need to realize that there were many mistakes made here, and not just by one person. the only people who didn't make a mistake were the pilots of US air!
