And a handpicked set of professional dancers to put in those costumes...

This is from Warners not MGM. But one of MGM's own in-house people later copied Berkeley's style for "Bathing Beauty" (1944), with the crazy pool finale with Esther Williams stepping off an elevator made of twin seahorses. BB is also one of the few filmmakers with a style distinctive enough to be recognizable in a parody (e.g., in "Singin' in the Rain"). This is one of his best numbers, for sure.

It's not the best recording. He sounds much better on my Footlight Parade DVD.

This number keeps topping itself. I thought the zipper effect was the cleverest thing and then they did the snake effect.

I assumed Ruby would get together with Dick sometime during this spectacle, and she did. Is Powell's voice a little high in this one? I have a cd with him singing Waterfall and his voice is lower. Maybe a studio recording.

i love old movies. they're my favorites. so classy and grand. i've watched so many that i hardly watch new ones anymore. i wish it could be like the good old days again.
