Looks as if the mic stand wasn't tightened properly and the mic kept dropping toward the floor. He was squatting to get the mandolin's treble hole up to the mic. Gotta hand it to the old guy, he can stick whip ass even in a crouch!

Thanks for posting the videos of Bill. I never did see him play live. And thanks to all for sharing their memories. The stories paint a picture in my mind of a man who's mind was constantly working through complex feelings of his life's experiences that released only through his music. Sometimes melancholy, with sadness, sometimes with anger and determination, but always with great confidence. I think about these things everyday when I pick up my mandolin. I've heard he was a stubborn man...
