How 'recent' is 'recent'? I heard that Alfred Deller helped resurrect the technique in the 1940s having heard Deller sing in Canterbury Cathedral Choir. In England, as far as I'm aware, the countertenor voice survived through the 18th and 19th century thanks to church choirs and was most found in the UK. The countertenor voice should not be confused with the castrati voice.

!Fabuloso! Sólo hay que imaginarse la virtud y el don que se requieren para cantar como un castrato sin serlo. Simplemente maravilloso.

His mannerisms on stage remind me of Cecilia Bartoli.

they are called counter-tenors. It's a recent phenomenon because the technique has only been perfected recently (without getting castrated) because it is so hard to get it right and to be loud enough. Derek lee Ragin is a counter tenor (from farinelli) and he has a high voice. Search for him he's wonderful among other wonderful counertenors like andreas scholl. I saw him live and shivers went up and down my spine through the whole performance! I literally felt like i wasgoingtofaintat onepoint.

I love this guys voice. Countertenors are my favorite. However his ears are distracting, and I swear I have seen titties on him. I think Jaroussky is cheating, and taking estrogen. lol |
