The assertive opening is refreshing after hearing so many sloshed, slow, lugubrious renderings. Remember the harpsichord. This perfomance utilizes the variable dynamics and articulations made possible on the piano while still approximating (without buffoonishly imitating) the harpsichord. And what delicate, intoxicating slow trills.

I love Gould's interpretation but you have to listen to Perahia's, is just as wonderful.

Well. If he played this exactly like Gould, and he probably could, then listening nobody would. If he played this exactly like Gould, then the individual character of Barenboim would be lost, and that would not be Good.
