Not at all. The helmets for the NFL are heavily engineered constructions and in many cases made to fit the particular players head. Football players also have hip, thigh, chest, and in most cases forearm protection, Standard issue.

Except for the shoulder protection, isn't that basic level *already* more protection than an NFL player would wear?
MIT1369 (May 15, 2008 at 8:10 am)
Actually, that is not necessarily so. The minimum armor requirements is for a helm of at least 14ga steel. Gorget to protect the neck. Hand protection. Rigid knees and elbows. Protection for the kidneys and of course a cup. There are many who fight in minimum armor. They like the freedom of movement. There are very very few who come out in what anyone would call "full harness" and there are even fewer who would be "better protected than NFL players". Where do you draw your opinion from?

If you get hurt fighting in the SCA. It's probably your fault for either not taking enough of a water break or resting enough. At Wars you're supposed to sit out after being killed a certain amount of time and take off parts of your armor and hydrate.

The people who fight in the SCA Heavy Fighting with Armor on are better protected than the NFL players.

"The Society for Creative Anachronism"Go to SCA "dot" orgThat's the SOciety website and there are links there to get you in touch with the local group as well as descriptions of what we're about. It's loads of fun.
