The thing falling from the sky is another monster. I don't know if only one was awakened but there are hundreds maybe thousands under the ocean and in space. They have a leader which still sleeps..er, dreams..er,...Have a nice day and try to forget about the end of our existence!!!!

im afraid you might be wrong. its most likely the lighting thats affecting the appearence of the monster.

yeah, its one baby monster created, awakened by the corporation the guy was going to go toit suffers from seperation anxiety, so it attacks the city

Perhaps the mother is clearing the danger up ahead with the "hornets nests" and the baby follows into the city the morning that guy gets ate which is the baby.
