Well, when you want to throw a ball to someone 100 feet away, do you throw the ball straight at him, or do you throw it in an arc? If you throw it straight at him, the ball will go down in an arc, and hit the ground long before it reaches him. But what if you throw the ball FASTER? Then it will spend less time in the air, and gravity will have less time to work its magic. Same with bullets, they go super fast, so they don't fall much, but they still fall at large distances.
