Dear Keaton fan (bossu3konn) I never meant to imply that the MGM years and the abysmal studio system were a bed of creative roses for any writer, actor or director or Buster Keaton, who was all three. I find it hard to watch "Free and Easy" and cannot bring myself to watch "What, No Beer?" My only point was that Buster Keaton did not die "alone and broke."

Dear friend (flynnzaca), if you really think he had the possibility to work (=expressing his art freely) after MGM fired him in 1932 then I would say you don't know his story or that you live in a romantic, hollywoodian world...he didn't get to direct any movie after 1938...it's sad for us, we could have been gifted with many more BK's works...they gave him the career oscar instead of letting him work. That's sad, yes, and didn't happen only to Keaton...

Um......In 1940, Buster Keaton married Eleanor Norris, a young woman 23 years younger than him, who by all accounts helped him turn his life around and remained with him until his death in 1966. He was hard working and always employed throughout his life, although it may have often times been behind the scene. Genius, yes, sad and pitiable, no. Nice montage.

Genius...died alone and broke...didn't get to work for many years...that's so sad for all humanity...Welles, Keaton, Griffith...

Love the Song. Never heard before. Really rockin'...Buster Keaton one of the all time greats. And CRAZY doing all of those stunts with no protection. True acrobatist to the heart. |
