I know, that's why I put the inverted commas either side of the word graft - I couldn't think of a word to describe it.I do know the other methods to use to make a neater, invisible join but I usually do it the way I've done it in the video for socks because it's hidden inside my shoe and no-one can see it. If it's going to be seen I would do an invisible join.

Oh dear, don't believe that's grafting. It's more 'binding together." Thought grafting was invisible and seamless, not lumpy. That's OK. Thanks for the vid anyway.

I never said it was the right way to do it, I said it's the way that I do it. How is it completely wrong if it works?Does it matter what the seam looks like when it's inside your shoe? Nobody is going to see it. Also, the seam does have some stretch, I use it all the time for socks.

I'm sorry but this is completely the wrong way to do it!That seam is ugly and has no stretch! The quick way is to runoff on waste yarn and replace stitches back needles with the right side facing you. Then machine graft using the stretch method. The best way is to remove from machine and hand graft for an invisible join!

Your socks always look great regardless of how you do them! Someday when I grow up I hope to knit socks . . . thanks for the info, Sheila :-) |
