Well, as I said I have it on good authority that Arcaro thought Cy the best he ever rode. Whirlaway, the most difficult. Kelso was certainly one of the greatest horses in history, no doubt, and one of my personal favorites, so I do not wish to make this a contest between Cy and him. But from a JOCKEY'S standpoint, Eddie considered Cy the best for many reasons.

After the Wash.D.C Intl. Arcaro said, I've never seen a horse like him.I thought he was great when I had him,but today he was the greatest.

Eddie made the statement about Kelso because he was riding Kelso at that time. This was told to me by a friend of Eddie's, Phil Georgeff, announcer at Hawthorne Race Track. True, Noor beat Cy, carrying weights of 110 and 114 against Cy's 132 and 130; he had to set track and world records to beat him and Cy lost by no more than 1-1/4 lengths, in the Capistrano by only a head nod. Course, he wasn't the Cy of 1948. Check your facts.

AMEN!!!!
1948BigCy (August 21, 2008 at 2:51 am)
Nonsense. Cy ran against older horses 7 times in 1948, unlike Sec, and beat 'em silly. He didn't break records because Arcaro reined him in after he beat the field. Horse racing isn't about breaking records; it's about winning races, and Sec's 9 wins for 12 starts pales next to Cy's 19 wins out of 20 starts. Cy beat world record, American record, and track record holders, sometimes twice. Weak field? In your dreams!

One note song? You mean like the negative split in the Derby, the "move" in the Preak and the still standing world record in the Belmont and track records in all? That one note song? Citation ran against a weak, weak, weak, weak(did i mention weak) field in 48. Citation couldn't carry Secretariat's jock strap for a mile and half left alone in 2:24. Go away.

YOU HOPE!!! We'll never know, will we? But Sec was beat 3 times as a 3 year old. Cy lost once in 20 starts (and a bogus loss at that). Yes, Sec's Belmont was marvelous. You Sec lovers sing a one note song.

So??? Secretariat Wouldjnt have lost to Citation in any opf the Triple Crown Races. Secretariat would have lapped Citation in the Belmont.
