Yes, the original meaning of that particular gesture is archaic these days, not in the least because no one actually does the gesture to ward off evil spirits. Rather, as Rujnar said, it only tends to mean (since the standard, prior meaning is moot) "this rocks" or "you rock". Also, sometimes goody-goody Christian youth kids do it excessively to seem cool.

actualy, the rock fist was something that cicilian women used to do in the early 20th and 19th centuries to ward off evil spirits.then, in the eighties people started doing it at dio concerts and it just stuck.

I may be wrong, but that can mean two things. It's something about what way you have your hand. If the palm is against your face, it means "hail satan", but if the palm is pointing against something else it means "ROCK ON!". Or something
