Such beautiful tone with clarity and elegance! Crisp, clean phrasing combined with balanced emotional display! I wish there were more pianists today with such a style.

No one will probably believe this, but my grandmother and Mr. Iturbi were actually friends. They meant when he played in Independence, Mo. She has a huge scrapbook and pics of them together and letters and cards he has sent her. I have a letter from him that congratulated my grandmother on my birth. My grandmother got me hooked on him. He was 4 when I passed and I really wish I would've been able to meet him, but his music, and the scrapbooks are wonderful keepsakes!

His Mozart is superb. Very clean cut, perfect "jeu-perlé", perfect balance of brain and heart. He recorded concertos n° 20 & 22 and for 2 pianos KV 365 with his sister Amparo. Sonatas n° 11 & 12 and the fantasie in d. Concerto n° 20 and sonata n° 12 you can find on CD, rest on LP, 2 versions of concerto 20 and sonata 11 & 12.

Iturbi is successful in keeping close to Liszt but still adding his own personality in a delightful way. Of course, the pianism is superb, and the spaciousness of the interpretation goes against so much frantic Liszt playing today. He adds a few flourishes in the first part, but so what. This was an era that was far less pedantic, but far more entertaining. Do you know his Mozart?

Thank you. Iturbi was marvelous. On his first visit to the US @ 1920s Horowitz named Iturbi as one of the major piano figures in the US.This performance is so warm and beautiful.

I saw Jose Iturbi in Vancouver in the early 1960s... after his concert I was hooked on classical piano music for the rest of my life... thanks!

Muy elegante y pero poca fantasía, la verdad.

Fabulous pianism, wonderful sense of playfulness, in total, a commanding performance. How I miss playing of this scale, drama, and color. He knew how to entertain.

Few performers show as much class as Iturbi. He had such a brilliant technique and aesthetic manner. What a showman! Thanks for the delightful vid.
