I thought the effects were great. They stand up well even today. But the movie went off the rails when Dr. Smith transformed into a monster.

the original plan was 3 movies but when the first one failed at the box offices they cancelled everything

I honestly don't get why everyone seems to hate the movie so much. Personally, I love it. It's all just personal taste, I suppose.Awesome song.
