For Christmas, when my stepdad figured he forgot to get us anything, he laughed so hard that he bellowed a fart that loosened the window hinges and made us decide to throw out all the unpackaged food. When I laughed at him, he gave me a priceless lesson in suckerpunches. He taped a used bow to an almost full carton of cigarettes and gave it to me the next day when he visited me in the hospital, and said, "All the kids in the fourth grade are gonna be jealous of you."
