there is an element of truth to this statement. He embraced Chile, because they loved his music, from there on out he became enamored with socialism, and even joined the PLO. I don't think an opportunist would fight a war in palestine to sell records. you should watch "Der Rote Elvis" which is a pretty good documentary on Reed's life.

Again, I don't doubt this man's talent. But you Reed fans have to recognize 2 things: 1.) Reed was an opportunist. He only embraced Socialism and the Iron Curtain countries because his records sold there---and NOT in the USA; 2.) Once the Iron Curtain began to fall, old Dean was set to dump his East German wife and skip back to America. If he could have, he would've been singing in Las Vegas with Wayne Newton.
