Yes, from what I understand. He was offered a chance to compete in the olympic fencing team, but at that time he was chosen to be Iron Maiden's lead vocalist. Iron Maiden were scheduled to start their tour. He made the decision to go on tour. I think he made a wise decision. I wonder if he ever wonders how his life would have been if he chose to go to the olympics instead. Well, I am glad he chose to Join Iron Maiden. It was the best decision he ever made, I think. Love him!

The VC-10 is fly by wire only in the sense that control column position is transmitted to the control surfaces via electronic signals as opposed to hydraulics or steel wires. There is no computer (digital fly by wire) to modify pilot inputs.

No... He simply did a small documentary for Discovery Channel. One of the things I love about Bruce is that he doesn't confine himself to only playing music. When Iron Maiden is finished, he will be all set for the rest of his life with all of the things that he can do.
