Nope the National Fingerstyle Championships ended 2003 to become the International Fingerstyle Championships. Alder placed 2nd in 2006 and 1rst in 2007. Once you win first place you cannot compete for 5 years.

Don Ross will be the only person to win twice at the National Fingerpicking contest. 2003 it became Intl. due to so many Intl contestants. Slots were given to champions from other countries eg Japanese champion, Antoine Dufour-canadian champ and so on. 2007 Alder became the first canadian to win the International Fingerstyle Championships. In 2006 he took 2nd place and the other Canadian Antoine Dufour took 3rd.

Don Ross has won it twice and he's Canadian... unless you're talking about a different championship than the Winfield one..?

I just saw this guy yesterday at the ArtsWells festival in Wells, BC. He was beyond incredible. Whoever posted this video should've mentioned that Don Alder won the 2007 international finger-picking championship - the first Canadian to do so. |
