I agree w/you about the mellotron. I thought it had a lot to do shaping The Moody's sound. Such a subtle and very cool instrument. Beatles together and solo used it, as did early Bowie, Stones etc.

I use coiled cords like most of the bands from that time period. They are easier to wrap up when gigging. Though they are a pain to get kinks out of.

OK. Short quiz. What is the keyboardist's name?

The Moodies are a really understated band. They were and still are a really really good band. Kinda like a light happy version of the Doors... that is, until they became a Vegas act. I think that's why people dismiss them

Mellotron as an instrument is now sorely missed, Moodys never replaced it live or otherwise, what a pity. It was such a unique element of their sound.

i really like how some of the chords are so short they dont even touch the ground. I dont know if its cuz that was the look back then, or if the moody blues knew that short chords picked up less ambient frequency noise or what, but i had never seen that before.

guitar isa gibson 335- electrics sound kinda cool when finger picked I think..Justin was actually a folk guitarist which worked into the sound of the moodies quite nicely.. |
