Looks notwithstanding, Kilmer failed to capture Morrison's persona, but this may have been due to Stone's shortcomings. I don't know if Astbury can act, but he could not have done any worse than Kilmer. Oh and yeah, the real Pamela was way better looking than Meg Ryan too, even Patricia Kennealy said as much so it's not only my opinion but someone's who actually knew both people.

Looks play only a small part: Kilmer's performance was superb. They were also looking into Harry Hamlin to play Jim, but Kilmer impressed everyone. Astbury? I don't know, can he act?

Jim is emotionally empty, but Ian is very emotional and he gives life to songs like this.RIP Jim and LONG LIVE the best of the besties, Ian Astrbury!

Astbury did not try to imitate Morrison or replace him. To try would be futile. I think Jim would've approved of Astbury as a singer.It is somewhat eerie the physical resemblance between Astbury and Morrison, perhaps Oliver Stone should have gotten Ian to portray Jim in "The Doors", Val Kilmer is ugly compared to Jim.

Jim focused? That`s a laugh. The dude was on psychedelics and a litre of JD every show! This was a tribute, not a replacement. Ian thinks much like Jim spiritually and politically. This is what made him attractive to the band. He did not need this gig because he is a hell of a performer in his own right. And yes, he does resemble Jim somewhat. It was a great excuse for the band to get back together and pad their retirements and a pretty damn good product. Just enjoy it. Jim IS DEAD!
