Pedro is absolutely right. Jiu jitsu does come from the south east. It just was not as big until it came to japan which is where it first got really recognized. (ex. japanese samuri first to modify and use jiu jitsu in combat)

BJJ is Jiujitsu/Jujutsu (both spelling are essentially correct) it is a modern (GENDAI) form that specializes in ground grappling but still has stand up grappling and a self defense. There are other forms of JJ but old school (KORYU) JJ are schools that were made and used before the Meiji Restoration (late 1800s) During that time Kano created Judo (still called JJ even though Kano wanted to use a different dame that was used by and old school of JJ called Jikishin Ryu)

Not true. Again every society has formed their own type of MA. Grappling is the most common and there are many methods that look the same. There are drawing in Africa that shows a system of submissions that look just like JJ and BJJ today. That doesn't mean that JJ was created in Africa even before Indian civilization. |
