The way he stuffed the tin foil into the salad bowl, resulted in a lot of wrinkles which causes the signal to disperse. Be sure to have a smoth surface, or better yet, cut the tin foil into approx. 1" strips and glue them into the bowl in a fan-pattern.

well the cell phone trick is bs but you can make that satlite with a usb nic to increase its range. its basically a makeshift wifi dish. no tinfoil needed thow just a metal bawl like a strainer. basically cut a hole large enough to run a usb extension cable out of the bottom of it but not the card itsseelf.
