It sure is black humor, especially since Curly insults Jud without his realizing it: "he treated the rats like equals, which was right!"

I first thought that this wasn´t sung the right way, but now that I´ve seen the whole musical, I can put this into context. I think Curly is being ironic here and that´s why Hugh is singing it like that, all theatrical and sarcastic. All in all, I think this scene is hilarious, black humour at its best. Curly visiting Jud and kindly suggesting that Jud should consider hanging himself because THEN at last women would think good of him and he´d get a fantastic funeral. XDDD

although, i don't like the part where jud starts crying at the end. this clip doesn't show it all. it's really sad, i dont like that part. the songs really well sung though.
