Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world. In North America, most converts to Islam are women, many of whom are drawn to the religion through their experiences of social injustice and political involvement.Ironically many mosques force women to pray behind barriers away from the men, and some mosques do not even permit women to enter the building. When it comes to user-friendliness for women, Canadian mosques run the entire gamut. In Me and the Mosque, journalist and filmmaker Zarqa Nawaz visits mosques throughout Canada and talks to scholars, colleagues, friends and neighbours about equal access for women. Discussions about the historical role of women in the Islamic faith, the current state of mosques in Canada and personal stories of anger, fear, acceptance and defiance punctuate the film. And Nawaz herself speaks of the spiritual longing that comes from belonging to an institution that doesn't want you. With original animation, archival footage and deeply personal interviews, Me and the Mosque is a smart, self-aware and whimsical story that documents the debates and presents the personalities on all sides of the issue.------------------------ ------------------- FOR THOSE WANTING TO WATCH THE FULL VIDEO OF "ME AND THE MOSQUE" GO TO GOOGLE http://video.google.com/videop... Try Madina Masjid in Toronto (Danforth Ave. and Donlands). Haven't been their in years, but the last time I went there the Women prayed in the basement next to the morturary. A lot better than the 'old days' when the women prayed in the main floor broom closet.

I'm not sure what she wanted - an integrated mosque where women were sitting next to men or just that she was angry (rightfully) about the barriers..?It's amazing to see how the Muslim community is opposed to change, how they are afraid to criticize themselves and how much opposition those Muslims who do try to improve their communities get. If Muslims were critical of themselves, their image would improve so much. This video shows that Islam is clearly about submission and non-thinking.

"I know that you love to say your prayer with me. However, the prayer you offer in your residence is more excellent than that you offer in your people's mosque. And your prayer in your people's mosque is better for you than you prayer in the (lager) congregational mosque." (Abu Dawud; Musnad of Imaam Ahmad; & At-Tabarani)

As a Muslim male, I support something like this. Let see -- the evidence is clear cut, the sunnah did not include a divider so who are we to put it up? I understand some women like its privacy so they can remove their hijabs, etc. so they should put up little area in the back with a curtain for those women specifically.

It is better for women to stay at home thats true however, women are not to be denied the Masjid unless then Imam feels there is a safety issue. I.e violence in the streets. Women prayed in the prophet's PBUH Masjid.
