It's not a laptop, it's a handheld device. The E-ink display appears that way by design to be easy on the eyes because it is a reading device. This is a good way to deliver content for reading to such a device - most reading behavior is done on the web these days anyway.

damn that thing is slow. I'd go insane waiting for menus to load.I'm guessing its slow on purpose so it doesn't draw the page until its done.

are these actual web pages? if so, how did these guys do this? my Iliad takes 10 minutes to load nytimes.
