June 2004The success of the new government in Iraq rests on one man. Ayotollah Sistani has the power to unseat any government and unleash civil war. "If Ayatollah Sistani declares Jihad, I will put down my tools, say farewell to my family, and go to war," declares one man. Another refers to him as "our nuclear timebomb." Sistani hasn't left his house in six years and refuses interviews to anyone. But the vast majority of the country will do exactly as he asks, whatever it may be: Sistani is the leader of 180 million Shia Muslims worldwide. For now, he's urging moderation but the violence unleashed by his rival, Moqtada al-Sadr, who commands a fraction of the support of Sistani, reveals just how dangerous he could be if he called for jihad.

Don't be offended. If you read my other comments you'll understand that I'm the opposite of wat you have described in your comment. I was comparing the historical achievement of ancient afghans to the Persians I was trying to say that race is not a decisive issue in what people accomplish but their religion and culture. Apologies mate don't be offended by the comment it wasn't intended to be racial or nationalistic in anyway. Again read my other comments I was being anti-racial/nationalistic

"The afghans are aryans. What can we say about their history? nothing."Open up a history book my friend.Your nationalism and arrogance is an inner disease that should be cured immediately.

Land and race should never be an issue for division between modern Iraq and Iran. Iraq has its aryans, its samites and its hamites. Iran too. Two proud nations that paved the way for the modern world. Our culture/religion speak of our deeds not our race. The afghans are aryans. What can we say about their history? nothing. The indians are aryans. What can we about their history? Nothing. Iraq and Iran are not nations of aryans and samites but nations of exceptional people.

Nationality, Race and language are three different human characteristics that are mutually exclusive. Assyria is a nation of people. Not a nation of one race therefore you cannot associate its roots with aryans or samites. Middle-eastern History is very diverse, extremely complex and very ancient. Whereas the aryan/samite/hamite ideology is a new principle, introduced by the west, that over simplifies the hole issue. Its an insult to human intellect.

buff2:i agree with you .there were assyrian ,kadani,... many other nationsbefore aryans ,from north, moved to iran.but they never spoke arabic but languages in the same family(semetic languages
