A miner employed by Dumas Contracting using an Atlas Copco 1020 Scooptram Load-Haul-Dump to muck waste rock from an underground drift (MA 3790) on the 3900 level of the Balmat #4 Mine operated by St. Lawrence Zinc. This loader is powered by a Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine rated at 225 horsepower. The loader carries 6 cubic yards of ore or waste per load. The video was taken with a small digital camera - It gives a good representation of what we see everyday in the mine, it however, can not convey the heat and the noise that these machines give off as they are operating. Enjoy the clip and thank the men and women who descend into the mines the world over in pursuit of Mother Earth's treasure so that we can all enjoy a better style of life.

Dumas Contacting is no doubt one of the finest contracting firms your boyfriend could work for. As far as safety goes, Dumas supervisors are committed to working safely and require all employees to work safely, so as long as he follows his supervisors lead, he should have a safe mining career, but... mining is only as safe as YOU make it - so take your job seriously and do not take shortcuts. I also believe that he should complete school as he will have a better life with a good education.
