I dont think it was Henry VIII that -composed it- but he was the one who paid another to do it for one of is "lovers"... I do remember reading about it somewhere when I was studying up on this song..

many americans dont understand the history of the british isles...they think all things in the isles are of celtic origin...not knowing of the roman,germanic and norman influence on the country and culture....im an american that knows the history because i study it..this is one of my favorite tunes...its beautiful...forgive the ignorance...our school system sucks...we celebrate every heritage except the european...because they were all white devils that ruined this country.or so they are taught.
