Complete program at: http://fora.tv/fora/showthread... Magazine editor Andi Zeisler offers a critical commentary on cosmetic surgery in a reading from her article, "Plastic Passion: Tori Spelling's Breasts and Other Results of Cosmetic Darwinism."-----Lisa Jervis and Andi Zeisler celebrate "BITCHfest: Ten Years of Cultural Criticism from the Pages of BITCH Magazine."In the wake of Sassy and as an alternative to the more staid reporting of Ms., Bitch was launched in the mid-nineties as a Xerox-and-staple zine covering the landscape of popular culture from a feminist perspective. Both unabashed in its love for the guilty pleasure of consumer culture and deeply thoughtful about the way the pop landscape reflects and impacts women's lives, Bitch grew to be, today, a touchstone of hip, young feminist thought, looking with both wit and irreverence at the way pop culture informs feminism - and vice versa. "BITCHfest" offers an assortment of the most provocative pieces from the past along with new pieces - smart, nuanced, cranky, outrageous, and clear-eyed all. Lisa Jervis is publisher; Andi Zeisler is editorial/creative director. - Cody's Books

Yes eugenics is (or was) about improving humanity through selective breeding. The theory goes that genes are responsible for all human talents and thus those who have better genes should be allowed to reproduce and the disable or mentally ill should not.

Eugenics is about changing genes?
Plato86 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Eugenics? So getting breast implants will change your genes? This makes no sense what so ever I have no idea why any intelligent person would by this book.

Gah! Who cares? It's a culture.

Face it you dumb bitches YOU ARE INFERIOR. It's a scientific fact. AND it's a social fact that Feminisim is dead - like Religion - it's all bullshit. Enjoy your life = serve your man. Be happy = be his bitch. Be realistic or face the consequences = life as a spinster with 30 cats.

Cosmetic Darwinism, well put, reminds me of the an argument that I've come across a couple of times in secular humanist circles. Genetic determinism used justifies misogyny because we're all gene carriers whose goal is to perpetuate the species (as if that even scratches the surface of the dynamics of sexuality). My point is that subjectivity is getting hijacked from not simply a media perspective. Today even the 'rationalist' play into the narrative of chauvinist vanity.

dear supersporkspank, you have totally missed the point (which is that the media dominates your choices and it clearly has dominated you). power is not about following the norm, it's about being happy with what you are and what you stand for- get it? you are an embarassment to females with working brains. and the magazine name probably has such 'edginess' (as you call it), because it does push boundary limits. wakey, wakey!

I'm astonished at your supernatural ability to jump to conclusions, sweetie...there ain't nuthin' fearsome about a powerful woman.(I guess you're assuming Andi Zeisler is powerful...hoo-boy.)You're just immature, sweetie...there's still hope for you.

You just responded. Are you stupid, or just hypocritical? It's my right to make my libertarianism known: if a woman (or man) wants to have cosmetic surgery, that's her business, not the "feminist" establishment's, just as if a woman wants to have an abortion, that's properly her business, not the government's.
