This woman is so amazing! I mean, I never thought that I'd get to hear this music sung so well! There are other sopranos who have essayed this role, yes, and they've done fine representations. However, I have got to declare what I know to be truth-- Devia is the only one I've seen who has the total package for the role. See how fearlessly she attacks this cabaletta? No cuts, no hiding behind the drama to cover up vocal deficiencies, and no limit to her vocal prowess? She is THE BEST yet.

If there was ever a soul singer, Mariella Devia is one. One should try to compare this phenomenal singer to Joan Sutherland. It would be like trying to compare a pinot grigio to a cabernet sauvignon. They are superb artists, but very different.

hehe ,It's just my opinion of course. I like Devia , certainly my favourite since Joan.

I love that version of this aria. Devia is so perfect, that it is boring sometimes (kidding). Thanks so much for posting that vid.

Good, but Sutherland is in a class of her own vocally of course

Tolle Oper, phantastische Stimme, hervorragendes Orchester - so hat Donizetti zu klingen. Vielen Dank für das Video!

There's a lot of banter about Renée Fleming and Devia. Folks, we gotta be honest. Though many of us love Renée, it wouldn't be fair to her to say that she excels in this role above Devia. It's simply not true. Donizetti needs a much more focused-sounding core to negotiate speech-level recitatives, and pin-point accurate coloratura. Note how Devia just drops her jaw, presses on the air "pedal" and her voice just soars upwards, cleanly? Renée hasn't done that in years. This is Devia's role.
