According to sources between 400 and 600 Eritreans a month make this dangerous journey.Most flee poverty and others try to escape conscription . Eritrea, which was already desperately poor, has poured money into weapons and its military since the war with Ethiopia that ended in 2000 but failed to resolve the border dispute between the two countries.
