Of course this is not the Hungarian version. And neither version is the "suicide song". It is just a very sad song so people were compelled to kill themselves, especially since the era in which the song came out was the 1940's and the war was going on, etc. It is a sad coincidence.

I am Hungarian and my parents have the song in their CD collection and they have the actual Gloomy Sunday DVD. There is no demon or voice telling you to kill yourself. It is just a sad song (the English version is also available and just as beautiful, I think it is sung by Billie Holiday) performed during a depressing era in Hungary's history (the 1940's, during the war) so people became depressed and some committed suicide.

My partner is Hungarian, and says that it's just a sad song. I agree. It's a nice torch song, but not enough to get me depressed.
