The singer is Mary Elizebeth McGlynn (and she also goes by the name Melissa Williamson).Akira Yamaoka composed the song but he didn't sing it.

No I dont think that is the key element in this song. Here´s what I think (not saying you dont have a valid point, just disagree with you) :" Its original, it takes a while to understand the lyrics but they are amazing, apparently - as i understand them, they´re about suicide, aaaand the song is soothing and dark, which is original enough in itself. People dont like making dark pieces much. If they are girls they go AAAAAH POP, if they are guys they go AAAAH ROCK! :P
