What does he say at 5.08? "shhhh! Not so loud"? If so, is that to Daevid, to the crowd or to someone else?

Wrong .There is also another clip posted as "Kevin Ayers Lady Rachel" you can search out.Described as..... Gong 25th anniversary 8 Oct 1994 at the Forum in London, featuring Kevin Ayers, Daevid Allen & Marvin Siau on Bahlama

David is at his best when somebody else has the control of the song. David is a piss poor musicain 87% of the time. He is a great musician less than 8% of the time..

daevid & kevin are together with robert wyatt, syd barrett & john lennon the best british songwriters-performers of late sixties

This wasn't an unconvention ...it was a fantastic show in Seattle .Daevid had just given an awesome performance .Kevin Ayers was highly irritated with Daevid's contribution and did in fact ask him to stop playing .Bit of a wanker really . I could have done with just another set of Daevid myself. Pay attention to the video, Ayres makes numerous attempts to end the song but Daevid is in bliss .

Hahahaha. Daevid Allen looks really funny.

THIS IS PURE GOLD!!!!!! The Soft Machine were amazing and so was Gong, and so was Kevin Ayers solo....This....this is perfect...It would be cool to hear them do "song from the bottom of a well" also. Thanks for posting this!
