did this ceremony several times on 3 visits to Ypres as an army cadet in the late 80's:- the most spine-tingling/ emotive/ humbling experience of my life.R.I.P. to all those named on the walls......

I am from Englad and will be traveling to the awe inspiring Menin Gate next month to pay my respects along with many other young men from Trinity House in Hull.

I've made this comment on another 'clip' reference Menin Gate ~ but its worth repeating "Thankyou to the people of leper and Belgium for continuing this ceremony"

In June of last year I was fortunate enough to travel with my choir from New Zealand to Belgium and sing at the 90th commemorations of the Battles of Messines and Passendale, and the 80th anniversary of the last post. I can't describe the honour we all felt as we sang for not only the Queen of England, King and Queen of Belgium and other dignitries, but also the "ordinary" young men whose names will forever be on the walls of the menin gate.

I'm Belgian and was present at the ceremony last september, for the first time in my life.It is breathtaking if you combine the ceremony with a view of the names on the Menin Gate.Never again would you think but alas the world ( or its leaders ) is not perfect.

We stayed in Ypres for 7 days and went 5 times as it was so moving. It is an emotional experience. We shall remember them - don't forget to give on poppy day!!!!
