Personally, I don't see much problem with caughing. This simply reflects Richter's personality. According to my information, Richter played free for many people, who were completely new at classical music. But here's the real reason: it was winter. Winter in Russia. And the great Richter performed for the poor.

i believe it exists a simple explanation for all the coughing: it's in moscow, 1954.. and i suppose it was in the winter, all that cough given. does enybody know how the winter looks in moscow?

I frankly don't hear anything wrong with Richter's playing. Not sure what people are complaining about.

There are 4-5 recordings of the Pavane available. 2 earlier versions (1954) from Moscow and Prague. I posted the one from Moscow, but I do have both. If you them, just send me your e-mail address by PM and I'll forward those files to you.
