I personally know many employess of PCC; dancers, Maori village chief, costumers, musicians and show directors. These are wonderful, talented people who are trying to educate people and promote your culture. Also, PCC is the only way in which many Pacific Islanders are able to obtain an education. I don't understand where your hatred of PCC arose, but why not help educate people instead of tearing everything down?

Everyone knows the fete of today isn't the same as centuries ago, but I still love it nonetheless. What was lost will never 100% be regained. But of course that doesn't mean we shouldn't try our best to preserve our cultures as best as possible. However, pulling down something that actually promotes culture isn't helping either. My time at the PCC inspired me to learn more. No, the PCC will never be as good as the real thing, but it is certainly better than nothing.

Not everyone at the PCC is a Mormon. And the President of the PCC certainly does not oversee the entire performance set. Yes, usually it is a haole to handle the business side, but not the cultural. Go and ask anyone there, you'll see only REAL Islanders tutoring the performers and creating the shows. In all the years that I was there, I never saw any haole teaching the performers how to dance or sing. That job is for the individual Island chiefs, who do come from their respective islands.

Me hoki koe ki te papa kainga.Return to the land of your ancestors and see how vibrant and wonderful traditional performance art is, and how cheap and pathetic the PCC version is. |
