What a sad story - a fantastic band ruined by a corrupt manager, who stole so much of their money and caused Peter Ham (who wrote this song) to hang himself. Hopefully they won't be forgotten.

They did not receive royalties for a very long time ...much of their royalties had become tangled up in red tape ,... and a lot of their royalty money vanished in the 70's approximately 600,000 that is accounted for and more that was unaccounted for...it was taken by their manager Stan Polley

The original is still the greatest. But Nilsson saw the true potential of the song. He recorded it in the same studio where the Badfinger boys were working on their next album. Pete and Tom heard it and were blown away. I like the clipped Badfinger version, but the big Nilsson version has become the standard.

To some degree true. But I guarantee most of the songs you like and enjoy have been re released at some stage or another? And as for this ignorant comment, 'people like this made nothing from this song,' have you not heard of royalties and copyright protection?

Mariah who? - Anyone who insists on having a carpet of rose petals laid from their dressing room to the stage thinks far too much of themselves! She should be thankful that people wrote songs like this in the first place. It's wicked that people like this made nothing from this song, whilst it just added to the millions that she has earned. Oh she looked so sincere and interested on X Factor tonight. - Yawn! |
