pfff, the popular vote is irrelevant. the electoral college discourages people from going to the booth unless they are in swing states. disenfranchisement of voters goes unpunished with a electoral college because if you can get a certain crowd not to be able to vote and win the state, then you still get the same amount of electoral college votes even though less people showed up to vote.on top of that, in most states there is no law that requires the elector to vote who he/she pledged.
