Traditional Latin Mass filmed on Easter Sunday in 1941 at Our Lady of Sorrows church in Chicago. The film presents the ceremonies of the Missa Solemnis or Solemn High Mass in full detail with narration by then-Mgr. Fulton J. Sheen. Celebrated by Rev. J. R. Keane of the Order of Servites (hence the white habits and cowls), the ceremonies are accompanied by a full polyphonic choir, orchestra, and fifty Gregorian Chanters. The attention to detail in the ceremonies is impressive. Notice, for example, how the servers and ministers always take great care to move in order. Notice too that the servers are all almost identical in height. The Ordinary of the Mass, composed by Rev. Edwin V. Hoover, while pleasant in places, is very much a reflection of its time. The Proper on the other hand is timeless and sung admirably by a healthy throng of Seminarians from Mundelein, Illinois.Unfortunately due to size restrictions at Youtube around 20 mins have been cut from the original, however, I hope to upload a full version somewhere soon. In addition to the cuts I have added new captions and edited the opening credits which had deteriorated in the original. Other than this the film remains largely unchanged. Apologies for the error in the captions for the two parts of the Mass (software). The first part is of couse the Mass of the Catechumens, the second is the Mass of the Faithful.

its more to do with God than us. Its about praising Him. So please don't confuse both. Praising God is supposed to give you new strength.

@boomac62-u are very well entitled to your opinion and ill respect that. but also try to understand for many people (myself included) attending Mass is a rejuvinating experience. mind body and soul. tradition and ceremony IS important. its part of our identity and what links us back nearly 2000 years to the foundation of our church with Saint Peter.

So boomac62, it evolved from the simple mass said by the apostles and early priests who said mass over tombs. More was added out of love and to symbolize parts of what it was supposed to represent, namely the passion. Let me know what you think. Happy to answer any questions.

I think He needs all of it. He needs to be praised in word-Mass, and deed-corporal works of mercy. If we neglect to honor Him in all things, then we are worse than the jews who crucified Him. The Mass is meant to be a glorifying word centering around what He commanded us to do at the Last Supper namely, say mass, or consecrate the Eucharist. The Mass which evolved from simply consecrating it, and leaving turned into a series of prayers, then the need for a lesson, then profession of Faith. next

The only honor God would want would be to care for the poor, the hungry, and forgotten, to be an advocate for justice & peace and to do it all in His name for His glory. There is nothing wrong with the Mass at all, of course, and it is indeed beautiful but I think we do "religious things" to impress oursleves sometimes...because it is easier than living the life. Nobody fails at this more than me and I in no way wish to offend I just don't get it. God doesn't need any of our religious stuff,

Brother, you would agree that God is deserving all honors that we can give? That's what this Mass is: centuries of love. You always give God your best, which means beautiful ceremonies beautiful vestments, and extraordinary music. Thats all. Its meant to give as much praise as possible to the God that gave His only begotten Son for love of us.

So much religion, Jesus NEVER wanted this! He wants us to live our faith, in a simple and honest way. This is a show....how far removed from the early true days of the faith....I mean who cares about the height of the servers??? geesh, thats somnething God cares about..or does man just want to impress. I do like the Liberation Theology the church has developed in Latin America however and I do respect all faiths.Peace
