I don't think julosx is the best example of technique. Note his left hand fingering and sense of time. I've been playing bass for 19 years and one of my basses is a Fender P. Like most bassists I use the standard two finger alternate, thumb, slap and plectrum depending on the music style or what the song calls for.

I do use two finger alternate. I don't use often the thumb, only for double notes, I think it's easier with a wide neck, I kind of grasp the strings !
