look up a famous experiment by Card & Kreuger.they state that the demand for low-wage workers is inelastic (doesn't disappear just because the price increases). they say that an increase in minimum wage DOES reduce employment, but by such a small amount that it is statistically zero. that result has been borne out by oter research, but of course, there are always people who take the opposite approach.
