The West is destroying itself.

I don't think that enough time exist for students in elementary to learn these other methods, but these other methods do give students a chance to understand why the math occurs as it does and builds problem solving skills that build the future; sadly, set algorithms don't assist in problem solving

I've Taken 3 semesters of Calculus and I've know a lot of people who struggle once they got to College Math. This could be a good program for those who "fallen" out of school.. but at this age, we should force students to have a competive edge. The map atlas information is a complete joke.

This is quite possibly the most retarded thing I have ever seen. Go watch Chinese children using an abacus to multiple columns of numbers in their head.

Sounds like leftist bull...They ruined my love of math in the early seventies with their "open" classrooms. Lefties will dumb down and destroy this Nation. We need more free market principles in education. We need to use the internet to make available the the various methods that have been time tested. Let the Russians post their methods. Let the Swedes post their methods. Let the japanese post their methods. Avoid the lefty "group thinkers."

What is this? Maths for dumbos? If a system isn't broken, don't try to fix it. I once taught a work colleague how to figure out IP addresses by using common math methods. He got it. He then went on a course where they brought out a grid system, which totally confused him. The point is, nobody in professional work is ever going to use a grid system to work out their IP addresses. If they did, they would look stupid. |
