Read Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Nearly Everything" and see how rare life is and how fantastic it was that WE ever got to live.

Im sorry, but it is the only simple minded people who believe that we live on the ONLY planet in the universe with intelligent life. It is debatable to whether we are 'intelligent', but there has to be many, many planets with life on them more inferior and superior to ourselves.

i believe if it hasn't happened yet we will make contact in the year 2010 according to hollywood and Stanley Kubrick!! but yeah there is no way that Earth is the ONLY planet with life, and intelligent life for that matter! maybe we need to watch some of these sci fi movies with open minds!

My guess? Odds for life is pretty dang good. (Bacteria and the such.) Odds for intelligent life? Much smaller. Probably about a dozen or so species would vie for that title if we weren't here. And of all that, only 1 (us humans) has managed to figure out how to access the energy and mineral resources to develop interplanetary communication. Even knowing this doesn't mean the odds are as good for other smart critters out there to have the same access to friable resources. Can't hurt to look tho. |
