I agree. My grandfather actually saw her doing a routine at Minsky's, and he said that she did end up in a sequin bikini, but she was saying jokes and witty sarcastic remarks, which was making her more desirable, because she wasn't just taking her clothes off without another word. Lol.She was a classy lady. She put the "tease" in striptease.

Seriously...Puritan ethics? They probably ran out around the time of the whole Scarlet Letter story (although it was written like fifty years after it actually 'happened')

I just saw Patti Lapone's version of Gypsy on Broadway and was curious about the real woman. What a surprise to see this! I would love to have seen the whole routine without the "hayes code" censors of the time--but the fact that this exist at all is amazing. Thanks.
